The Scholastic Assessment Test, commonly known as SATs, is a standardized test which is required for admission into undergraduate study in the United States of America and Canada. SATs is also accepted in the United Kingdom and Australia.

The SATs exam is administered and conducted by the College Board in the USA. SATs was previously known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

The structure of the SATs exam has been developed to assess the written, verbal and mathematical skills of the student. Therefore, it has four sections in the exam, such as reading, writing and language, calculator-allowed mathematics calculation and without a calculator, mathematics.

An optional essay writing part is also present in the SATs. The total score of the SATs can be in the range of 400-1600. The score is also converted into a percentile. One needs to pay $47.50 for the SATs and $64.50 for the SATs with the essay. An additional charge of $26 must be paid, if a person is taking a subject based SAT. The SATs test is almost 3 hours and 45 minutes long.

The SATs’ exam is conducted 6-7 times in a year. For a one-year duration, for example, 2018-2019 the exam date starts from August 2018 and continues to June 2019. A person must register from the website of the College Board USA, before appearing for the exam.

Registration dates are provided on the website for a whole year. A person can register online before appearing for the SATs exam. Late registration, phone registration, etc. is possible in some cases, with additional fees.

From the past few years’ trend, it can be observed that the first test of the SATs, in a year, is conducted in the 3rd or 4th week of August. After that three tests are conducted, one each in the first week of October, November, and December respectively. The last three SATs tests start again in March. It is conducted in the 1st or 2nd week of March. The last two tests occur in the first week of May and June respectively.

A person can enter as many times as they like for SAT exams, but only the six latest scores are uploaded into the file, at a time. The experts advise not to take more than 4 SAT exams. The best way to choose the number of exams is to take one SAT, with preparation and one more to improve the score, understanding the mistakes.

A final SAT can be reserved in case of the utmost requirement. Some colleges ask for all the test scores, so even the low scores might be shared with them, therefore it is advisable not to have more than 4 attempts for the SATs.

A large number of tests do not ensure a good score, unless effort and proper preparation, are taken for the course. Without preparation, appearing for SATs is only a waste of time and money. Therefore, a person can wisely choose from any 3-4 test dates in a year from August to June of the next year, based on the requirements of the college admission process.
